The company is engaged in the manufacture of malt and beer in barrels, bottles and cans. It was formed in 2000 as a result of the merger of Grupo Cruzcampo S.A. and S.A. El Águila. The company is heir to more than a century of Spanish brewing experience and history and a significant player in the development of Spain's brewery industry. It dominates the brewery market in Spain, with a market share of approximately 36 percent. Headquartered in Seville, the company has five factories. Two are located in Andalusia (Seville) and the remaining three are in Jaén (Madrid), Valencia and Arano (Navarra). Together, these factories produce more than 10.5 million hectolitres of beer per year. The company has a broad brand portfolio including Heineken, Cruzcampo, Amstel, and Legado de Yuste, the first abbey beer to be produced in Spain. In addition, it has added two new non-alcoholic brands, called Buckler and Kaliber, as well as a variety of international specialities. The company's wholly-owned Spanish subsidiaries include Heineken España Distribucion Sociedad Limitada, which is involved in manufacturing, distributing and selling alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and Heineken Canarias S.A., which is engaged in the import and sale of beer.
